A True Festival Beauty

Alexa, Daisy and Kate are the undisputed queens of festival chic. Messy bedhead locks, sun kissed skin and rocking sexy eye liner. How do they make it look so effortless?

The reality is if they haven’t been helicoptered in straight from the salon, they’ve probably got a luxury Winnebago, complete with monsoon shower and make up mirror, just behind the backstage bar.

Back in the festival real world… you might turn up looking like a well polished modern day Marianne but after one night in a steaming hot, or rain swamped tent it’s likely that you’ll end up looking more like Alice Cooper.

Here’s my tips to achieving and maintaining the ultimate festival rock chic look!

Preparation: self tan on face and body the day before. Try Johnson and Johnson holiday skin, (RRP £5.10 Boots). It gives a lovely natural glow, and should last for about 5 days. Remember to wax or shave legs if they’re going to be on show.

Hair: style hair in the morning before you leave. Use a styling lotion for hold. Try bumble and bumble styling lotion, (RRP £6.50, from Bath and Unwind). Create a messy wave using GHD’s or wide barrel tongs. On site use a dry shampoo to revive. Try Tigi Rockaholic dry shampoo, (RRP £9.95 from active beauty). Loosely plait your hair before you hit the sleeping bag. This should help maintain the wave. Straightening curly hair is a no a for a festival, humidity and rain will make it go frizzy in a flash.

Skin: use a tinted moisturiser to help keep your skin re-hydrated. Always choose one with an SPF to prevent burning. Try Bobbi Brown tinted moisturiser SPF 15, (RRP £27). Use a peachy crème blush for a sun kissed look. Bobbi Brown’s pot rouge in cabo coral is great and doubles up as a lip sheen, (RRP £17). Remember to take an under eye concealer for hangover eyes! I like Dior Skinflash, (RRP £25 boots).

Eyes: for the ultimate rock chick eyes use a soft kohl pencil in black, khaki, dark grey or brown. Outline the eye around the lashes then take inside the eye on top and bottom. Smudge with a cotton bud. Try Mac Kohl, (RRP £13). Rainproof your look with a few coats of waterproof mascara in black. Try Splashproof Lash by Mac, (RRP £13).

Lips: use a clear lip balm for a natural sheen, or a tinted gloss. Clinique’s Chubby Sticks are fab for festivals as they come a in a pencil form so no mess! (RRP £14)

Nails: keep nails clean and natural. If you go for a colour it’s likely to chip after a couple of days.

And don’t forget:

Stock up on wet wipes! It’s unlikely you’ll get to use a shower for a few days and they can double up as make up remover.

Sun tan lotion! You’ll be outside all day, even if its cloudy, you can still burn. Take a hand sanitizer lotion to prevent picking up any nasty bugs!
